If you want to be cynical, you could say that Oprah long figured out the perfect way to improve her show's ratings and get droves more people to tune in to increase her advertising dollars for O Magazine and her other business holdings.
In Elizabeth Snead's Dish Rag, Oprah admits that she has gained 40 pounds in four years and now she weighs 200 pounds. How could someone with so much money have an eating disorder? She can hire the best chef, buy the best food and eat at the best restaurants in Chicago. Is there something that money can't buy, it's self-esteem? This is what we have to instill in our children as parents.
Oprah can buy gym equipment, such as treadmills or she can build a gym in her home like Tina Turner but she can't buy the will to stick with a program of weight loss. Oprah's issue is one that only she can control so it may be that she needs attention and this is why she allows her weight to fluctuate. Is she in need of psychological help? It's beginning to appear that this is not only about Oprah's weight.
All you Oprah lovers should wise up to her problems and make the necessary suggestions to her before she ends up in Luther Vandross's shoes. It does help the nation in a weird sort of way because obese kids and adults and obesity is fast-becoming an epidemic that's placing increasing hardships on our health care facilities. No doubt, Oprah will once again bring attention to this major health care crisis.
